Beyoncé's Parkwood Beats 'Alien Superstar' Sample Lawsuit
A judge tossed the copyright claim over the 'Renaissance' track's intro.
Beyoncé's camp can close the book on one legal headache. Her label and management company, Parkwood Entertainment, has won the dismissal of a copyright lawsuit over the EDM sample that opens "Alien Superstar," a standout from her Grammy-sweeping 2022 album "Renaissance."
A Friday (June 26) court ruling, first reported by Billboard, throws out the suit filed last summer by a company claiming to own the 1998 John Holiday song "Moonraker." A slice of that record forms the now-iconic intro: "Please do not be alarmed, remain calm. Do not attempt to leave the dancefloor."
The dismissal hands Parkwood a clean win in a case that put one of "Renaissance's" most recognizable moments under the microscope.
