Memphis Bleek 'Happy' JAY-Z Dissed Haters at Roots Picnic
Bleek says Hov is still sitting on a vault of unreleased verses.
Memphis Bleek is in Hov's corner — as he's been for three decades. The Roc-A-Fella mainstay says he was "happy" to watch his longtime mentor JAY-Z use his headlining Roots Picnic set in Philadelphia to fire back at his doubters, telling Boardroom the freestyle was vintage Jay.
Bleek admitted the backstage chaos meant he didn't even catch the verse in real time. "Jay just be having verses. I know," he said, explaining that he only heard the freestyle once it hit social media.
For Bleek, it was a reminder of how much Jay keeps in the tuck. "I be trying to get him to spit, but he got too many verses that he just tucks," he said. "When you're a writer, you're a rapper, you're an artist, you're gonna continue to write. Whether you release it or not." For an artist who rarely puts out new solo music anymore, even a festival freestyle lands like an event.
