Prison-Rap Originators Lifers Group Return With 'Prison Life'

Lifers Group is back with a message. The collective — which first formed inside New Jersey's Rahway State Prison — has released "Prison Life," a new single that continues the mission the group has carried since the moment it came together behind the wall.

The track is a direct, unflinching warning to young people about the realities of incarceration, picking up the thread of the socially conscious prison rap the group helped originate.

Decades on, the premise still lands: few voices can speak to life inside with the authority of the men who lived it.
